Mary Kom

Mary Kom, the film - tedious bollywoodisation of the aggressive nationalism of a blood sport, based on a possibly authentic subaltern story, with Priyanka Chopra's spurious Manipuri act providing the proverbial icing on the completely frozen bhelpuri platter. The meanest trick, of course, was to make people in the auditorium forcibly stand (a friendly subtitle on screen asked them to) while the national anthem played as part of the triumphant finale within the film - all in keeping with the chest-thumping 'patriotism' of the current climes.

Happy New Year

Spurious, obnoxious, a crime against humanity - Happy New Year by Farah Khan. A crude thrice-stolen jingoistic patchwork of a misogynist tale told with supremely arrogant incompetence and king size display of vulgar spend. The ultimate Dubaification of India waales and their plastic, nuance & responsibility free upwardly mobile neo-right dreams.
